In
service to others, giving of our time and our talent, we often find a joy
that comes no other way. Each of us, from the youngest to the oldest, can
find our own particular ways of sharing God’s love with others and at St.
Mark’s, we are always looking for new ways to serve both one another and the
community beyond our walls.
Mississippi
mission trip (June 29 - July 7, 2007)
Eleven members of St. Mark's traveled to
Biloxi, Mississippi to assist with the rebuilding efforts following
Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Six young people and five adults worked
for a week in Pasagoula in the home of Carolyn Norvell. The pictures
below offer a brief glimpse of their experience.
Circle of
Caring
The Circle of Caring is the group who responds to members of
the parish in need of meals, visitations at home, nursing homes or hospital,
transportation for appointments or other destinations. The coordinator is
contacted and told what is needed and the members of the Circle of Caring
help out where needed.
Food and Friends Soup Kitchen
The Attleboro Council of Churches sponsors dinner every
Tuesday evening at Mansfield Baptist Church. St. Mark's provides dinner
every time there is a 5th Tuesday in the month. Help is needed with last
minute preparation and serving to the approximately 50 people who attend for
a good, hot meal and fellowship. Help is needed from 4 pm to 6pm and no
cooking talent is necessary.
JOY
Just Older Youth meets every
second Wednesday of each month for an opportunity to enjoy sharing,
learning, hearing guest speakers, socializing and just a chance to get
together. This is an excellent opportunity for the elders to socialize and
experience special events.
Men’s Breakfast
The men meet on the first
Saturday of each month, at 8 am at St. Mark’s. Attendance has grown from
the original 6 men to as many as 40. Some of the holiday events and during
the summer breakfast is at local restaurants. Each man makes a small
contribution to cover the cost of food. We have no agenda, no goals, no
officers, just fellowship and tasty eating.
New Trading Post
The New Trading Post is a
consignment shop located at 6 Central St. Foxboro, owned and operated by St.
Mark’s and community volunteers. Working at the Post provides an opportunity
for meeting people, outreach to the community, plus great bargains! Store
hours are Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat afternoons. Consignment items are accepted on
Thu & Sat, 10 items per week per consigner. Donations are accepted any time.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
The Prayer Shawl ministry is modeled
after groups from Connecticut and Nantucket. The group meets twice each
month. Prayers are worked into the meetings and into the process of
construction of the shawls, which are given to people in need of
comforting.
